December 2018 Income & Expenses

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Let’s start the new year with income & expenses for december 2018!

Here is what my income looked like in December:

My income this month was 6117 $. As you can see most of it (85 %) was from my day job. In december there is half tax in my country because of the upcoming christmas season (but as a minimalist, I didn’t go crazy here!).

The stipend I got because I’m following a course on the university in management. The post “Rent from partner” is for the shared cost (housing). My GF transfers to me, and then I pay the bill. This month I managed to sell things on ebay for 144 $, a nice raise from last month (17,6 $). I will try to continue to sell things that I have in january as well. Next friday I will start The 30-Day Minimalism Game that “The Minimalists” created. This means that I have to get rid of even more things at home that I don’t use anymore.

My expenses this month was 3286 $. This was a special month, because I’m at a vacation in Thailand, Australia and Singapore from the middle of december until the middle of january.

I love to travel, but at the same time I think it is hard to spend money. I really consider buying things before I actually do it. FIRE has made me save a lot of money, but at the same time I sometimes blame myself for spending money on things that I know I could survive without (fancy dinners eg.). It feels good in the moment, but it doesn’t give me enough pleasure to defend the high costs.

Of these expenses there is only one of them I think is unnecessary, and that is the high cost for the christmas table. This cost will be sliced next christmas!

Savings rate

This month’s savings rate was 46 %, which I think is too low. But with a month vacation, it’s not easy to save money. It feels too good to load up my index funds, and in the next post about my net worth you’ll see how my progress are.

Stay tuned for my next “income & expenses”-post!
